Wednesday 28 October 2026 in Limassol: doxology at Agia Napa Cathedral at 10:00, the parade, roads, and what's open and closed on the Ohi Day public holiday.

Wednesday 28 October 2026 is Ohi Day, the public holiday marking Greece's "No" to the Italian ultimatum of 28 October 1940. Here's what matters in Limassol on the day. Last checked: 27 October 2026, 15:50 (Cyprus time). We'll update this page if the programme changes.

At a glance

Doxology, Agia Napa Cathedral: 10:00, confirmed. Parade, Makarios III Avenue: taking place; 2026 time and route not yet announced (11:45 in 2024 and 2025). Limassol road closures: not yet announced by the police. Banks: closed (online and mobile banking work). Government offices, KEP: closed. Public schools: closed. Shops and supermarkets: allowed to open; each shop decides. My Mall Limassol: open (hours not published). EMEL buses: no holiday notice yet: check the Cyprus Bus app.

Doxology at Agia Napa Cathedral, 10:00

The official doxology (Te Deum) for Limassol is at 10:00 at Agia Napa Cathedral, in the old town. Bishop Nikolaos of Amathus celebrates the Divine Liturgy and leads the doxology. The government is represented by Transport Minister Evi Tsolaki, who also takes the salute of the parade.

      The parade

A parade will take place in Limassol, but as of Tuesday afternoon the 2026 Limassol programme (time, route and participants) has not been published. For reference, in 2024 and 2025 the parade started at 11:45 on Archbishop Makarios III Avenue, from the Ariel traffic lights to the junction with Ioanni Polemi Street; passed the official stand at the south entrance of the Lanitio stadium; included associations, university and college students, secondary-school students, Guides, Scouts, Civil Defence and National Guard units, led by the Lanitio philharmonic band. Other ceremonies in the 2024 and 2025 programme (not yet confirmed for 2026): church bells at 05:55 and a dawn march through the streets; flag raising at 07:00 at Grigoris Afxentiou Square (District Administration); wreath laying at 10:45; flag lowering at 17:00 at Grigoris Afxentiou Square, followed by a Guides' torch procession towards the Agios Nikolaos roundabout.

        Roads and parking

Limassol Police have not yet published closures for 28 October 2026. Don't rely on last year's details. If the parade uses its usual route, expect Makarios III Avenue to be busy or closed from late morning until the parade ends. Leave extra time if you are crossing that area. For the doxology and the old town, the municipal car parks along the seafront and the Old Port are the closest options (see the Limassol Municipality car park list). No holiday parking rules have been announced. Going to Nicosia? Central Nicosia roads close from 09:00 and 09:30, with a parking ban from midnight and drones banned. Nicosia buses are diverted between 09:00 and 13:00 (Cyprus Police and Cyprus Public Transport announcements).

          What's open and closed

Banks: closed (Central Bank of Cyprus holiday list). Online and mobile banking work. Government offices and KEP: closed (civil-service holiday). Public schools: closed. Schools held their Ohi Day celebrations on Tuesday 27 October. Shops and supermarkets: 28 October is not a compulsory closing day under the Shops Law, so each shop or chain decides. Check your supermarket's website or app before you go; we couldn't find confirmed holiday hours for Limassol chains. My Mall Limassol: open, with shops, dining and entertainment. Holiday hours weren't published. Bakeries, kiosks and shops in hotels, ports and airports may trade 24/7 by law, holidays included. Restaurants, cafés, beach bars, museums, pharmacies: no official holiday notice. Venues set their own hours, so check before you go. For pharmacies, use the official duty-pharmacy list. Beaches and the seafront promenade: public spaces; no closure has been announced.

            Buses

EMEL (Limassol buses) has not posted a holiday timetable for 28 October 2026. Check live times in the official Cyprus Bus (Motion) app or at limassolbuses.com before you travel.
